The Staley Mustangs Boys 7th Grade Soccer played the Stafford Spartans tonight in much better weather than last week.  The Mustangs showed some tentativeness early in the first half.  The Spartans were spending way too much time on our side of the field.   The defense stayed tough and did not let the Spartans score.  A few minutes in to the game the Mustangs began to open up and play more aggressively.  By the end of  the half, Staley began to put the pressure on, taking several shots on goal, but with no success. The half ended in a scoreless tie.  The second half saw the Mustangs try to score as Travis had a nice break away down the field and took a shot, Stafford's keeper stopped the ball and dove on it.  The next few minutes was just back and forth down the field between the teams until Travis passed to Trent in the middle.  The goalie came out to get the ball, missed the ball but took Trent down.  That resulted in a penalty kick for the Mustangs.  With the game so tight,  Austin took full advantage.  He kicked the ball perfectly into the back of the net.  Staley had the lead 1-0 with 19:45 left to play.  However, a minute and a half later, the Spartans got one into the goal as well.  Back to a tie, at one a piece.    The last seventeen minutes each team played tough.  For the Mustangs, it was a case of   close calls.  Staley had two shots go wide, one hit the cross bar of the goal  and a penalty kick sailed just over the goal,  On the other side of the field, Staley's keeper, Draven made some amazing saves.  Both keepers dived, leapt and slid to save every shot imaginable to keep their team in the game. The game was intense and exciting to the end. The Mustangs played tough and fought hard to a 1-1 tie.  Great Job Mustangs!!
