The Frisco Lady Raccoons Varsity Soccer Team came out last night hoping to avenge a heartbreaking loss to Wakeland in the first round of District play. The Frisco players came onto Frisco High's Field pumped and ready, they dictated the pace of a very physical match. The aggressiveness of the Lady Raccoons paid off as they scored right off the bat, less than four minutes into the game, when Maddie angled the ball past Wakeland's goalie as she came out to defend. A Wakeland defender kicked it back out, but not before the ball crossed the line and the ref signaled goal. Frisco had the early lead 1-0. Wakeland stayed right in the game, putting up their own goal less than two minutes later. The crowd knew the show down was on and it was going to be a great game. The Lady Raccoons did not let the goal affect them, they continued to control the game, keeping it on Wakeland's side of the field most of the half. Frisco's second goal came when Taylor dribble the ball toward the goal, and as a defender came up on her, she crossed a perfect pass right in front of the goal to Jordan who kicked it right in. Frisco lead the game 2-1 with twenty three minutes left in the half. The Lady Raccoons, knowing that Wakeland is a very skilled opponent, kept up the tempo and did not let up. Frisco's goalie and defense were strong the entire game, keeping the Wakeland girls out of the net the rest of the half. Frisco made it 3-1 with ten minutes left in the half when Julia had a break away down the length of the field and boomed it into the back of the net past Wakeland's keeper. Frisco took the 3-1 lead to the break.
The second half saw both teams step it up. Frisco did not want to lose the lead, and Wakeland wanted to even up the score, at the very least. Frisco came out on fire, not just protecting the lead, but going full force, controlling the ball, and the game; they outshot and out played Wakeland in both halves. The game was physical, like always when these two team meet, pulling on jerseys, pushing and tripping. Both teams were called for fouls, but Wakeland was dealt a yellow card when a Wakeland player outright shoved one of the Frisco's players down. Frisco scored again six minutes into the half when Jordan headed in Janie's free kick into the goal. Frisco 4, Wakeland 1. Frisco turned over goal keeping duties from Victoria to Shelby at the sixty minute mark, and up 4-1. Shelby making an outstanding save after a collision with a Wakeland player. Both keepers played fantastic games, not having to deal with that many shots, but proving invaluable when needed, keeping Wakeland scoreless in the second half. Frisco's final goal came from Blair, who took a pass from Jordan and went one on one with the goalie, and kicked it right past her into the net. Frisco had an insurmountable 5-1 lead with less than four minutes to play. The Frisco players continued to play smart and tough until the final tick on the clock. Frisco played a dominate, exciting game giving the home crowd a long awaited, well deserved, convincing 5-1 victory against the cross town rival and tough opponent. This game will go down as one of the best games in the Lady Raccoons recent history. Congratulations Lady Raccoons on a stellar game!!
